Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Employing a unique way for their original season ticket holders to commemorate the team’s NHL debut in 1970, the Buffalo Sabres presented spectacular limited-edition Wilkinson sabres as amazing keepsakes to the 1970-71 inaugural season ticket holders. At 28” in length and featuring a gold-coloured hilt with textured grip and lion head pommel, “To commemorate the entry of the Buffalo Sabres into the N.H.L., 1970 Coach – Punch Imlach” is engraved into the blade’s silver finish, with Sabres' logos on either side, with the particulars from Wilkinson etched above the cross-guard. The limited-edition number of "0643" is stamped on the top edge of the blade just above the hilt, with this sword ready to serve as a formidable display piece.
There is surface wear and oxidation evenly coating the blade along with a few random scratches, with additional surface wear including a few nicks over the grip and pommel. We should also note that the blade is currently loose within the handle, and it’s able to move slightly from side to side.
