Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
A five-time all-star from 2016-2020 and the Vezina Trophy winner for the 2015-16 season, Braden Holtby would backstop the Washington Capitals to a Stanley Cup championship in 2018, the first in franchise history. Originally a product of the WHL's Saskatoon Blades who was drafted 93rd overall by the Capitals at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and helped the AHL Hershey Bears to a Calder Cup championship in 2010, offered here is this AHL Bears jersey donned by Holtby during the 2012-13 season and then prepared for the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs. Made by Reebok, brand/AHL, "Goalie Style" and size "58" labels are all affixed to the inner collar while additional Reebok wordmark patches appear over the reverse neckline and hem respectively. Also having had an AHL league crest placed over the reverse hem and the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs emblem embroidered into the same area, the front of the faux tie-neck style jersey has been decorated with a Bears team crest that features both embroidered and felt construction details. Having had a blue cross sponsorship logo embroidered into the right breast, a Bears alternate logo crest appears over the left shoulder while the franchise's 75th anniversary patch adorns the right shoulder. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Holtby's number "1" in dual layer cream-over-brown tackle twill numerals while "Holtby" has been spelt out in single layer brown twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Displaying game-wear on the lighter but still clearly seen side of things, puck marks are observed over the front and both sleeves while red post paint transfer marks are found over both elbows. Regarding the photo-match, the jersey has been matched to an image of Holtby taken during the season that shows a match to the puck mark at the bottom of the front crest.
