In a world of his own regarding his immense talent, opponent and HOFer Serge Savard once stated about the legend, “There’s stars, superstars, and then there’s Bobby Orr”. With literally any items featuring the wunderkind atop the list of an endless plethora of collectors, we offer a true treasure, with lumber employed during his rookie era, circa 1967-69. A Northland Custom Pro model, “Esposito” appears stamped-on, with stamps over each side of the shaft from team supplier Woody Dumart. Featuring the familiar and correct “corndog” style wrap over the handle with soiled white over black in a fashion that predates Orr’s later famous ribbed grip, the tape has been removed from the blade, with the remnants visible of just a pair of strands, another proper feature for any Orr gamer. A number of photos exist that do show Orr using other player's sticks with this style of knob. Witnessing NHL action in the hands of a youthful Bobby Orr while he began to emerge as the game’s greatest defenceman, this stick should elicit considerable interest.
With the aforementioned “corndog” handle soiled, the stick exhibits great use, with numerous puck marks covering the blade, along with marks to the lower shaft including some red goal post paint transfer. The three striping accents remain intact, with a stamp over the upper shaft of the Glass Fused stick showing a lie of “5 ½”.
