Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

Captivating keepsake commemorating the Montreal Canadiens 1952-53 Stanley Cup championship – their seventh in franchise history, we have a highly desirable and rarely offered Stanley Cup championship trophy that was presented to the man with the thundering slapshot and 1972 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion. With the joyous Montreal Forum home ice celebration at the conclusion of the 1953 Finals against the Boston Bruins immortalized by a photo of Maurice Richard and Butch Bouchard embracing Elmer Lach, who scored the Cup winner in overtime, with a ride on their shoulders, the offered trophy measures out to 5 ½” in height and with a circumference of 8 ¾”. Resembling the top bowl of Lord Stanley's coveted Cup and engraved on one side with "National Hockey League Stanley Cup Winners - Season 1952-53" plus "Club De Hockey Canadien Inc - Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion" on the other, "Sheffield Reproduction" is stamped on the underside of the base for the pattern/model on the underside of the base as well as "S.P. Copper" (silver plated over copper). Beautifully preserved despite missing its original flower pot grill, some of the silver plated finish on the interior of the bowl has worn out over time and shows the copper underneath it while the exterior of the the brilliant silver plated dish sports some tarnishing over most of it that is actually quite lovely as it is a light golden colour, some of which has been cleaned off over the "Club De Hockey Canadien Inc - Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion" inscription. Of note, the trophy could be cleaned if desired but displays extremely well as is, with a rich patina and vintage appearance that makes the piece worthy of prominent display.
