Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
A rare opportunity, Classic Auctions is pleased to announce yet another partnership with the historic Montreal Canadiens franchise, one that will bring to auction a large and impressive bounty of jerseys fresh from the vast and seldom offered holdings of the storied hockey club. Examples are present from 2002-03 to 2014-15, with both important game-issued and game-worn jerseys offered, with a direct line from the actual player and the Canadiens franchise – to you, our loyal bidders. Each desirable jersey has inventory numbers from the Canadiens, with each to be accompanied by a letter of authenticity on Canadiens letterhead, with this section of impressive jerseys offered online with the familiar Classic Auction bidding rules applying.
All-Star right wing Alex Kovalev’s 2008-09 Montreal Canadiens game-worn alternate captain’s jersey displays patches on both shoulders. The “100 Seasons” patch the Canadiens wore throughout 2008-09 to kick off their 2009 centennial celebrations is sewn on the right shoulder and the “LNH Match des Etoiles Montreal 2009” All-Star Game patch is sewn on the left shoulder. Kovalev led the Canadiens with 26 goals and 65 points in his final season in Montreal, when he won All-Star Game MVP honors in the Eastern Conference All-Stars’ wild 12-11 shootout win over the West All-Stars at Bell Centre on January 25, 2009. Kovalev’s 2008-09 Canadiens game-worn red home jersey with a cut fight strap has “1” handwritten in black marker in the back of the neck, which has a size 58+ flag tag. Game use includes an inch-long slice up from the hem in the middle of the front tail and another little nick to the hem on the right, a few light black marks in the middle of the lower front tail just above the blue and white stripes, a few light board burns on the back of the left shoulder yoke and a light black mark below that on the rear left shoulder seam, a couple of board burns on the blue band on the back of the right sleeve, a couple of black marks high on the back of the right sleeve, a couple of black marks low on the front of the right sleeve near the cuff, and a few very light boards burns on the left sleeve. Canadiens Game-Worn Jersey team patch with No. A02980 is sewn inside the rear tail. Canadiens hologram sticker affixed to the bottom of the “1” on the back displays registry No. GU11542, which corresponds with the team LOA that accompanies this Kovalev gamer from his final season in Montreal.
