Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Dated mostly from the 1870s, we have a collection of letters (6) end envelopes (7) addressed to Lord Frederick Stanley, famous donator of the Stanley Cup. Most appear to be addressed to Stanley during his time as Financial Secretary to the War Office. Two of the letters are signed "Wellington", which could possibly be Arthur Wellesley, the 2nd Duke of Wellington, who served as a Member of the House of Lords during the era. Two of the envelopes have vintage English postmarks, with the collection showing just expected age and handling wear. This is an especially intriguing collection of letters once owned and read by hockey's most famous benefactor.
