Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016

Don Sweet, Harry Skipper and Nick Arakgi are among the members of the 1983 Montreal Concordes whose signatures cover the three white panels of this team-autographed Spalding football. The Concordes went 3-1-1 over their last five games of the 1983 CFL season to salvage a 5-10-1 mark. That was a step up after a disastrous 2-14 campaign the previous year, the former Alouettes’ first as the re-branded Concordes when Seagram magnate and Expos owner Charles Bronfman stepped up to save the franchise and keep the CFL alive in Montreal at least for a few more years. We count 32 light blue ballpoint autographs including the likes of quarterbacks Johnny Evans and Kevin Starkey, center Doug Smith, running back Lester Brown, receivers Todd Brown, Brian De Roo, Jerry Parrish, Jeff Patterson and Mike Washburn, offensive tackle Miles Gorrell, linebackers Carmelo Carteri, Kurt Garl, Frank Kosek and Mark Hopkins, and safety Phil Jones, among others. A few paler examples though all the signatures are legible. Cool piece of Montreal’s rich CFL history.
