Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
A fan favourite throughout his considerable time with the Boston Bruins, serving as the club’s most tenured team captain, Ray Bourque transitioned from Beantown to Denver after 21 seasons and spent a pair of seasons with the Avs which included winning a Stanley Cup his final year. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004 and holding the NHL record for most career goals, assists, and points by a defenceman in the history of the league, offered here is this lot that includes both of Bourque's 1980-81 rookie cards from O-Pee-Chee and Topps that have been signed by the man himself. Both found at #140 in each set's respective checklist, Bourque has signed over the front of each card with a blue marker ink signature, with both autographs displaying without issue. Both deemed to be "authentic autographs" by Beckett, the signature over the front of the O-Pee-Chee card has also been assessed a Beckett Autograph grade of "10", which is displayed over the label at the top of the holder. Of note, only the autograph itself has been graded, not the cards themselves. Both housed in Beckett holders that remain in overall excellent condition, both cards show condition issues including wear to the corners and edges as well as images that are off-center. Additionally, the O-Pee-Chee card shows heavy creasing as well.
