A most important contributor to 10 Stanley Cup titles during his illustrious career as a player, Jean Beliveau celebrated seven other championships with the Habs as an executive for an almost unbelievable total of 17! The Habs’ tradition of excellence continued during the 1978-79 season as they captured the Prince of Wales Trophy and the Stanley Cup, both for the fourth straight year, and secured their spot as one of hockey’s greatest dynasties. Guy Lafleur made it five straight 50-goal seasons, Bob Gainey took home the Selke Trophy and Dryden and Larocque claimed another Vezina. After sweeping Toronto in the quarter-finals, Montreal’s reign almost ended against Boston before some last second heroics from Lafleur helped send them to the finals against the Rangers who they took care of in five, Gainey being awarded the Conn Smythe at series’ end. Miniature 13” high silver-plated Cups were awarded to team members, with this one presented to Vice-President of Corporate Affairs Jean Beliveau. His name is engraved amongst those of the team’s hierarchy on the barrel of this special souvenir, the Canadiens’ powerful lineup highlighted by Hall-of-Famers Lafleur, Dryden, Cournoyer, Robinson, Savard, Lapointe, Gainey, Lemaire, Shutt and Langway. With a wonderful golden patina, the trophy exhibits light tarnish/silver- loss and represents the best of times for a generation of Canadiens supporters. Obtained from Jean Beliveau’s daughter Helene, the delectable treasure will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by the one and only Jean Beliveau.
