Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Kicking off hockey’s greatest all-time international tournament with the first of the four Canadian matches played in Montreal, on Sept 2, 1972, Game 3 of the famous Canada-Russia Series took place at the Winnipeg Arena four days later, and featured the only tie game in the series. This was fortuitous, as it allowed for the series to be clinched by one nation in the final game, as opposed to the tournament ending with four victories for each team (a total of eight games were played). This original blue variation ticket stub hails from Game 3 played in Winnipeg, on Sept 6, 1972, and it is accompanied by a Canada-Russia Series program signed on the cover by Paul Henderson and Bobby Hull, with Ken Dryden signing the back cover. At approx. 1 ¾” x 4 ½”, the $7.00 price includes tax, with the seat, date, and venue listed, along with “Canada/USSR” and advertising from sponsor CCM on the reverse. Sporting a few horizontal creases, the ticket displays well otherwise. The program shows minor handling wear with a few creases and a blemish to the cover, with Hull, Henderson and Dryden all signing in ballpoint, with the signatures displaying beautifully.
