Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
A staple for the majority of Canadians, 7-11 convenience stores began selling their famous “Slurpee” frozen carbonated drinks in the mid-1960s, with a number of promotions throughout the years offering athletes featured on their cups. We have a large collection of 7-11 hockey cups from the 1970s/80s, including a near-set of 1973-74 WHA cups (19/20) needing just Bobby Hull for completion plus approx. 20 duplicates, along with 60 examples from the 1983-84 NHL promotion. The WHA cups include Carl Brewer, Gerry Cheevers and Ted Green, while the NHL cups from 1983-84 include Messier, Hawerchuk, Shutt, McDonald, Salming, Kurri and many other stars.
Also included, we have a Wayne Gretzky 7-UP cup from the early-1980s, 5 Gretzky Coke Classic cups, 6 Subway cups from 1998 with Hull, Howe and Clarke, 6 1970s Flyers cups with 3 full size and 3 minis, 6 Coke Superbowl cups with 4 for SB XXIV and 2 for SB XXV and a single mini Phillies cup. There is duplication present, with the majority of the cups surviving in especially pleasing condition, free of the heavy toning, warping and cracking that usually plagues these plastic cups.
