Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Always a challenging and inviting set for collectors to build, an overall fairly pleasing near-complete assembly of Topps' 1967-68 hockey release is up for grabs here, highlighted by a pair of freshly graded cardboard offerings picturing a young Bobby Orr. Missing cards 4, 17, 21, 23, 25, 30, 35, 37, 46, 51, 54, 58, 60, 64-Mikita AW, 74-Beliveau, 90-Gilbert, 102, 110 and 118-Orr AW for completion, the group also includes an extra raw copy of 228-Orr AS. Lead by the previously mentioned freshly graded PSA Orr pairing, Bobby's main series card found at #92 on the checklist has been deemed worthy of a VG-EX 4 designation while his All-Star card, #128 in the set, displays a respectable EX 5 over its label at the top of the flaw free holder. For the rest of the cards, found to be in a fairly uniform and consistent condition vicinity of VG to VG-EX, it is worth mentioning for accuracy that thirteen (13) cards are crease or have a light crease including #'s 5, 6, 7, 19, 20, 29, 34, 36, 48, 59, 79, 91 and 121 while a pair of cards, #76 and #77 are miscut and #'s 1, 18 and 39 display with light glue residue stains. For the key offerings, those of 3-Lemaire RC (light corner wear all the way around), 16-Horton (light corner wear), 32-P. Esposito (light corner wear), 33-Sanderson RC (corner wear and 70-30 centering), 43-Howe (light border and corner wear plus 75-25 centering), 66-Checklist (unmarked - corner wear), 70-Cournoyer (corner wear) and 124-Hull AS (light corner wear) all lead the way in the scope of VG-EX to EX condition while 75-Vachon RC (corner wear + small surface scratch to the right of his head), 99-Cheevers (corners and right border wear/dings), 113-Hull (top left corner ding + 80-20 centring), 114-Mikita (left border ding/damage + off-center from top-to-bottom), 120-Checklist (marked - light corner wear) and 131-Howe AS (corner wear) are all in the range of VG to VG-EX. Lastly, the extra raw ungraded copy of Orr's All-Star example is in POOR condition because of a large crease. A wonderful trip down memory lane awaits our lucky winning bidder.
