The neat pucks across the top of Topps’ 1965-66 cards, along with an interesting rookie card class, make for a cool and popular puck issue, with some nifty components involved in this assembly. Although not in tiptop shape, autographed rookie cards include those signed by Cheevers (G+), Henderson (G), Cournoyer (F), Ellis (F) and Dennis Hull (P), with Jim Pappin also penning an autograph to his (VG-EX+) card. The key Phil Esposito RC (F-G) is acceptable, while that of Ed Giacomin (EX) is among the overall condition leaders. They include an EX-MT 101-Bucyk and half a dozen other EXs, with 17-Keon and 71-Richard highlighting. Some six dozen in the VG, VG+ and VG-EX range have corner wear and are either crease-free or have a minor crease. Most notable are 1-Blake, 65-Hodge RC and 81-Mahovlich. Stars Howe, Hull, Horton and Beliveau are shy of VG (G or G+), with Gordie’s 600 Goals SP example displaying similarly but with a smidgen of paper loss (forehead) technically lowering things. Best among the six team cards and in the VG neighborhood are the Canadiens and Black Hawks, with the Bruins (P) and the others (F-G) better. The remainder include a dozen at either F (12-Sawchuk) or G (2-Worsley), 20 hammered (P)(55-Hall) and two with back damage (60-Mikita). The checklists are marked but without obvious creases and like the ensemble overall, not bad at all.
