Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Hailing from the Soviet Union’s first of nine consecutive World Championships in 1966, we have a gold medal, with the original recipient lost to time. A classic design of a goaltender minding his net with “1963” below graces the obverse of this gold-toned medal, encompassed by the words “Championnat du Monde” and “World Championships”. The reverse shows the IIHF logo with “International Ice Hockey Federation” in English and French. At 2 ¼” in diameter, the medal remains in gorgeous condition, with just very light wear and a bit of spotting. A vintage box (not the original) currently houses the keepsake. The 1963 World Ice Hockey Championships were the 30th edition of the event. The tournament was held in Stockholm, Sweden from March 7 to March 17, 1963.
