Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Extremely popular with collectors since their introduction over half a century ago, bobble head dolls continue to be highly regarded and valued today. This lot contains 7 1961-63 square base NHL bobble heads including the key Boston doll, making up a complete original six collection with an extra Rangers example. Featuring decal team names and crests, each bobble head is right around 6 ¼”, give or take, and all are stamped “Japan” and “1962” on the underside of the base.
The breakdown for each doll regarding its condition is as follows, 1) New York Rangers doll. The nicer of the two Rangers example offered, the doll remains in beautiful high-grade with only some paint loss to the red pants at midsection to report. 2) Toronto Maple Leafs doll. This example is also in high-grade, with absolutely no condition issues to note. 3) Montreal Canadiens doll. Another stunning doll in the collection, it has vibrant paint and no issues to be concerned about. 4) Detroit Red Wings doll. In gorgeous condition, the doll has just one spot of colour loss on the bottom of the head, and some paint loss to the underside of the base, but this could be an original flaw as issued. 5) Chicago Black Hawks doll. With a beautiful face and bright colours, the doll has some wear to the fragile underside of the head, along with some loss to both decals, but these imperfections are minor, and the doll displays beautifully. 6) Key Boston Bruins doll. Yet another example from the collection in high-grade, the only issue to mention is a factory flaw, where the silver paint used for the skates was accidentally rubbed onto the base at the bottom of the right skate. 7) Extra New York Rangers doll. In very good condition, there’s some wear including hairline cracks to the head, and yellowing to the white painted sections. The team name on base also shows wear.
