Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Hobbyists may well indeed concur with us when we refer to this offering as an "event", since it's the first time we've ever had a complete set of "loose" York octagon-shaped cards on the auction block. Remarkably, the vast majority display splendidly, with no creases or staining to report. We count 27 in the EX-or-better realm that would have most collectors saying, "boy, quite nice, eh", while another 11 are similar but with subtle marks of a clear adhesive substance affecting the upper and lower back, with however no paper loss. Two of those, 7-Horton and 22-Blake, additionally exhibit some color loss on the front. Four condition exceptions are to be aware of, with a brownish scotch tape stain on the reverse of 2-Duff, surface scratches to 8-Bower, color loss (front) and minor paper loss (back) with 9-Stanley and a peripheral crease in 24-Backstrom. Very frequently found in small quantities, or pasted in to albums which were produced for collectors are cards like these, with this inviting group, starring memorable Canadiens and Maple Leafs, sure to garner interest.
Also to mention is that of the 11 cards with adhesive on the backs (clear tape residue), most are commons, with only Geoffrion and Kelly notable stars joining the aforementioned Horton and Blake.
