Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Ultra-intriguing and downright rare is this odd-sized card depicting the legendary Ace Bailey and part of the Stoodleigh Sports Series, until a few years ago an undocumented issue. The Hockey Stars set is now known to consist of eight cards, available back in the day through Stoodleigh's Restaurants, with one located near Toronto's Mutual Street Arena, the Maple Leafs' home before Maple Leafs Gardens. Printed on thick card stock and featuring the artwork of artist Jimmy Thompson, the cards measure just under two inches wide and five inches tall. This Bailey example, remaining in its original raw and ungraded form, presents in the condition of FR in our opinion after inspection and shows with a large crease through the Leaf legend's face as well as staining over both sides and some other small creases near the bottom. Also sporting the typical edge and corner wear, the reverse side shows an advertisement for the restaurant they originated from as well as a schedule of Toronto's remaining home games.
