Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016

Applying the auspicious adage of “Never give up”, the seemingly defeatist Boston Braves went on to win an unprecedented 70 of their last 89 games in 1914 to capture the National League pennant. Playing out like a fictitious contemporary dime-store novel, the Braves would then face the heavily vaunted Philadelphia Athletics under the tutelage of ageless Connie Mack in the Fall Classic, and despite a line-up that boasted five prominent Hall of Famers including Eddie Collins and Frank Baker, the Athletics were no match for the Miracle Braves, going down to defeat in four straight games. This 1914 World Series program has been scored in pencil and originates from Game 1 at Shibe Park, as evidenced by the 7-1 victory for the visiting Braves.
While the program presents in beautiful high grade, the center spread (score sheet) is detached at the bottom staple, with loss and discolouration along the seam as well as some edge creasing. The staples also exhibit some rusting, but only on the interior portion. The cover remains bright and vibrant with no fading or toning that’s commonly seen, with the spine and interior completely supple. A high grade survivor that’s ready for even the most advanced World Series or antique baseball publication collection.
