Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Seldom seen and highly desirable, this collection of 9 WHA game pucks range from the league’s beginning in 1972-73 until it’s final season in 1978-79, and features earlier and later Edmonton/Alberta Oilers variations, both red and blue coloured game pucks as well as Art Ross and Biltrite examples. Also included is an inaugural season Edmonton/Alberta Oilers WHA puck with a note stating “Dennis Kassian believes this puck was his 1st WHA goal scored in Edmonton”.
This first-season puck features the solid blue Edmonton/Alberta logo with a worn reverse, as well as a few nicks and chips. Next we have a solid white with red oil-drop logo Oilers puck, in very good condition with the WHA logo on the reverse partially missing, as well as evidence from a former mounting. A pair of matching Inglasco Oilers pucks with familiar modern logo and large WHA reverses follows, with both pucks in excellent condition, and this is followed by a red 1973-74 Vancouver Blazers puck with Chevron advertising and a high-grade Chicago Cougars Art Ross puck with rubberized Converse logo reverse. Rounding out this puck lot we have a blue game puck with WHA logo as well as a blank red example, both by Biltrite and both in excellent condition and from the inaugural 1972-73 season. Lastly, included is a blue 1972-73 Ottawa Nationals game-puck with large WHA logo and it includes an LOA that states that this very puck was caught by a lucky fan in the stands.
