Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Perfect for the hockey historian or avid equipment collector, we have a great ensemble hailing from the 1940s/50s and consisting of gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, pants, knee pads and a garter belt. First, the gloves are Polar Brand models produced by Holdens, in tan leather with darker-coloured palms and knuckle inserts. Featuring wooden reeds over the wrist/forearm sections, moderate to heavier use is exhibited, with wear/rubbing to the leather in spots and a darkened right palm, but no tears or separations along the fingers. Next, the shoulder pads were produced by noted maker Reach, with felt body and leather covering, along with plastic shoulder cups. The lacing is intact, with light to moderate use visible. This is followed by black leather elbow pads that show heavier use, with the strapping intact and worn including repairs. The knee pads are in solid blue felt with plastic knee caps and shin guards, along with a leather joiner, with moderate to heavier use exhibited including wear to the finish on the plastic components. Lastly, the pants were produced by Quebec maker D&R, with a solid blue body and red/white side striping, with the original suspenders intact. Heavy use is apparent, with light soiling of the material and rusting/salting to the metal suspender clasps. A small army-green canvas equipment bag from the period is also included – large enough to house the ensemble, with leather trim and metal grommets. Heavy use is again exhibited, with separations to the leather and soiling/staining to the material.
