Menacing the opposition with forays from his crease to intercept advancing players, Ron Hextall exhibited early that he wasn’t one to be messed with, with the superstar netminder especially skilled at both the physical aspect of the game and his controlled handling of the puck. A winner of 296 games in his National Hockey League career as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, Quebec Nordiques and New York Islanders, Hextall's stellar play during the 1986-87 season in which the Flyers advanced all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers. Claiming the Conn Smythe Trophy and Vezina Trophy for the 1986-87 season, Hextall would serve as Team Canada's back-up goalie during the 1987 Canada Cup tournament but not see any game action as Grant Fuhr carried the entire load the whole way. Offered here, we present this red Team Canada jersey donned by Hextall during the historic international affair. Made by CCM, a Maska label is affixed to the inner collar while the CCM logo is embroidered into the reverse hem. Measuring out to roughly a size "54" and retaining its fight strap on the interior, the front of the jersey is decorated with a rubberized Team Canada crest and sleeve emblems that remain in good condition overall with no cracking or damage but some dirt marks. Having had a "Labatt Couple Canada Cup" patch affixed over the right breast, the verso has been styled with Hextall's number "27" in single layer white twill numerals while "Hextall" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Originally hailing from the personal collection of Alan Eagleson, the jersey shows just light wear from pre-tournament and/or pre-game warm-ups in the form of three (3) black marks over the left sleeve as well as some minor staining throughout. The original LOA signed by Eagleson will accompany the piece.
