Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Long-time Original Six rivals have been brought together in this lot for one lucky collector, with a mix of both Montreal and Detroit items with 31 different JD McCarthy Red Wings postcards including 4 rare examples with facsimile team signatures on the reverse, along with 18 Adolphe Studio Canadiens photos. The 5” x 7” Habs photos originate from circa 1953-54, with each featuring an Adolphe Studio stamp on the reverse, with the photographer’s Montreal address listed, along with each particular player’s name handwritten in pencil, then gone-over in red marker. Included we have HOFers Richard, Harvey, Geoffrion, Lach, Bouchard, Moore and Johnson, along with Reay, Mosdell, Olmstead, MacPherson, Gamble, McNeil, Curry, Masnick, St. Laurent, McCormack and Paul Meger. Each photo remains in pleasing condition with light wear along with a slight “roll”, with the Masnick and MacPherson examples exhibiting a few creases and dinged corners along the bottom sections. The Red Wings postcards total 31, with four (late-1940s) featuring facsimile team signatures on the reverse, including Couture, Fogolin, Poile and Pete Horeck, with an additional six that have the players name handwritten on the front, with Arbour, Lindsay, Riebel (2 – with one listing a different name) and others. The HOFers within the offered Red Wings postcards includes Howe, Sawchuk, Lumley, Adams, Lindsay, Ivan, Kelly, Delvecchio and Marcel Pronovost. The majority of the postcards remain in very good condition with clean backs, with light expected wear including the odd small crease or corner ding. Also included is the vintage 7” x 11” photo album the postcards/photos were originally stored in.
