This absolutely fascinating 1930s New York Rangers game-worn wool jersey is attributed to Alex Shibicky, who wore #4 for the Broadway Blue Shirts from 1936-37 to 1941-42. This style with the white collar was worn by the Rangers through the 1940-41 season. The cascading “Rangers” spelled out across the front is red and white sewn-on double felt. The double felt No. 4 on the back was reattached at some point to the jersey. Other players who wore the number prior to Shibicky includes deceased HOFer Babe Siebert in 1932-33 and part of the following season, Vic Ripley in parts of 1933-34 and 1934-35, and Harold Starr in part of 1934-35 and in 1935-36. This wool Rangers treasure retains vibrant red and blue colors in the wool, and red and white felt. There are extensive sewing repairs on the front of this beauty, which has numerous holes throughout that do not diminish its historic display. A great piece of Rangers history from the midst of a great decade that saw the 1932-33 Stanley Cup win capped by another in 1939-40.
Some of the red felt is missing to the last two letters in “Rangers” on the front.
