Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

From the “Miracle on Ice” game between the USA and the USSR at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, this video-matched CCCP red mesh jersey was worn by Russian forward Alexander Golikov, who led the Soviets with seven goals in seven games. Clearly matched to the horizontal black mark at the bottom of the white twill “2” sewn on the right sleeve, the jersey also has distinct placement of the numbers on the back and the removed nameplate that are also visible in videos of the game. Acquired in the late-1980s/early-1990s from a former Soviet national team equipment manager, this historic game-worn jersey has size 54-56 and laundry instruction flag tags in the neck. Solid game wear includes black marks on the left shoulder and on the front. To our knowledge this is the first "Miracle on Ice game" CCCP game-worn jersey to be offered for public sale.
The white twill number “3” on the back is sewn on slightly lower than the “2” to its left, and tilted towards the right in relation to the other number. Evidence of the removed nameplate shows that it was offset to the left. The manufacturer’s small round blue and white vinyl logo is screened on the top of the left breast. Stretchy knit inserts around the middle of the sleeves and the waist, the latter with heat-screened red vinyl diamonds. There are various unrepaired holes do not diminish the display of this historic “Miracle on Ice” Soviet national team gamer.
