Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

Originally from the Peter Dalla Riva collection is this very cool lot that surrounded him and the 1973 CFL All-Star Game, a game in which the Montreal Alouette star claimed game MVP honors. The plaque presented to Dalla Riva in recognition of the award reads as "Labatt Trophy" on a gold-colored football plaque and "Peter Dalla Riva Montreal Alouettes Most Valuable Player All Stars CFL Game 1973", all mounted on an 8" x 12" wood plaque. The original trophy from the game stands 15 1/2" tall overall and features a 12" tall tarnished silver cup, with a gold-colored football player which has broken off its base but can be repaired. The 3 1/2" wood base, with a few chips in it, has "Labatt's Award CFL All-Star Game Outstanding Player 1973" engraved on the affixed silver plaque. Dalla Riva was presented with the Spalding official J5V CFL football lettered as "All Star game ball, To: Peter Dalla Riva Most Valuable Player 1973" in white on one panel, and rounding things out are Dalla Riva's original black Adidas football cleats (most of the cleats on the bottom are no longer), along with a smaller vintage trophy cup atop a wood base that stands about 8" high overall and has "Peter Dalla Riva 1973" engraved on a silver plaque on the front of the wood base. The May 30, 1973 letter informing Dalla Riva of his selection to the team and the event's itinerary are included in this lot as well. Wonderful stuff from a player who had his Als jersey number 74 retired in 1981 and who was ultimately inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
