Vintage real photo postcard featuring HOFer Bill Cook (ind. 1952, dec. 1986) dates back to the early-1920s with the Greyhounds of Sault St. Marie, Ontario and signed in beautiful fashion by Cook who used blue ballpoint pen. The sepia-toned postcard, from circa 1921-22, has the bottom corners cut off, a series of creases are noticeable in places, as are a few small tears on the edges, and some handwritten numbers in pencil are on the back, but overall remains decent and is a rare and unique image of the young Cook several years before he would make his NHL debut with the Rangers in 1926-27.
The modern Soo Greyhounds are a junior franchise, but the team of the Twenties was a senior outfit that played in the Northern Ontario Hockey Association Senior "A division and the Northern Michigan Hockey League. The team won the Senior A championship in 1921, 1923, 1924 and 1925, and the 1924 Greyhounds also won the Allan Cup, the only team from Sault Ste. Marie to do so. The bottom right corner of this postcard displays the photography studio "M.A Coulson".
