Mario Lemieux’s photo-matched 2002-03 Penguins game-worn captain’s jersey is from the most productive season of Le Magnifique’s return to the NHL in the 2000s. Super Mario scored 28 goals and 63 assists for 91 points in 67 regular season games. Mario wore this jersey beginning with Pittsburgh’s road opener on October 14, 2002 in Toronto, as he scored twice in a four-point outing. He wore it through November 18, when he had three points at Montreal’s Bell Centre. Mario signed in black marker and dated the right “6” on the back of this game-worn jersey after wearing it for the final time that night. Action shots of Mario offer matches to the sticks marks on the lower right sleeve, marks on the back of the right sleeve, the long stick mark on the left hip, and the loose white thread on the Penguins patch on the right shoulder. More game wear includes a board burn hole on the gold fabric of the left sleeve. “66 1 C” is written in black marker on the size 56 flag tag in the back of the neck. This photo-matched Mario Lemieux signed game-worn jersey comes with a Penguins LOA for Mario’s autograph, a MeiGray certificate of registration and a pair of additional LOAs.
