Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
The only player to captain two teams to Stanley Cup championships, Mark Messier enjoyed a quarter-century of NHL hockey, and is currently second on the all-time career lists for playoff points, and third for regular-season points. From the earlier part of his Hall of Fame career, we have a signed stick used by Messier in 1985-86, a season that witnessed his fourth All-Star selection. A CCM 1001 model with somewhat worn but mostly intact striping accents, “Messier” is stamped to the upper shaft with “11” handwritten and underlined (most of his name is covered with the black handle tape), with the original black tape over the blade and handle/knob. There is also a “3 AVR 1985” date stamp on the underside, with the possibility of use during the 1984-85 playoffs which started on April 10th for Edmonton. Using both CCM and Sher-Wood sticks that season, Messier is seen using Sher-Wood during the Stanley Cup finals on available images. Game-wear is light, with some minor wear to the taped section of blade and a few marks to the shaft. The Moose has signed the frontside shaft just above the heel in black marker, with the signature a bit light at the beginning from a weak marker.
