The 1993 Stanley Cup Finals proved to be one of the most exciting and memorable in recent history. Set on the 100th anniversary of the Stanley Cup, it seemed fitting that the NHL's greatest franchise, the Montreal Canadiens, and the NHL's greatest player, Wayne Gretzky, would play for Lord Stanley's Cup. This would be the last Stanley Cup Finals series to be played in the Montreal Forum, and the last time Gretzky would play in the Finals as well. It was the Montreal's first trip to the Finals since 1989, while it was the first-ever trip to the series for the Los Angeles franchise in its 26 year history. Perhaps the most memorable moment of the matchup came late in the third period of game two. Trailing 2-1, Canadiens coach Jacques Demers called for a measurement of Kings defenceman Marty McSorley's stick. The stick was deemed illegal, and Montreal's Eric Desjardins scored on the ensuing power play to force overtime. Desjardins scored his third of the game 51 seconds into overtime to give Montreal the win, and some momentum heading toward games three and four at the Great Western Forum. Montreal would win those two games in overtime, wrapping up ten consecutive overtime wins for the Canadiens in the 1993 playoffs. Kirk Muller scored the game-winning goal and was it any wonder that Patrick Roy was awarded his second Conn Smythe Trophy following his astonishing 16-4 record and 2.13 goals-against average performance? We are delighted to offer the home white knit jersey worn by goaltending great Patrick Roy throughout the playoffs and into the Final series against the Kings in 1993. This splendid sweater sports the Stanley Cup Finals patch sewn over the NHL's commemorative Centennial patch on the right breast above the embroidered "CH" team logo of the Montreal Canadiens. Tagged in the neck by Maska with a smaller size "56" fly tag near by. The outer tail is decorated with the embroidered logos of the National Hockey League and CCM. Perfect post-season game wear includes nice inside pilling around the elbows and cuffs and three or four stick marks and slashes on the front of the jersey with another noticeable scuff on the right sleeve. These marks are clearly visible in action photos from the Finals and they have been matched to a jubilant shot of Patrick hoisting Stanley's grail. This historic jersey originally came from former Habs equipment man Eddy Palchak. Roy gifted the sweater to Eddy in the dressing room immediately after the Cup win, taking a few moments away from the celebration to add his autograph, "A mon Chum Eddy, Patrick Roy" (in French, to my Friend) up on the left breast. Without a doubt, this is the most amazing and significant Patrick Roy game worn uniform we have ever offered. Comes complete with a photo of Roy wearing this jersey and a detailed letter of authenticity from Classic Collectibles.
