The Frank Mahovlich Auction - October 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/18/2005
Rich, handsome work of art depicts the National Hockey League's first president, Frank Calder, along with the trophy that bears his name. Through the hectic formative years of the NHL, Calder is said to have been a firm executive, able to adjudicate player and team grievances. It was he who, from ‘36-37 until his death in 1943, would buy a trophy that was given each year to the outstanding rookie. After his death the NHL awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy.
