The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
Sensational memento was presented to Marcel Dionne following his phenomenal 1979-80 season in which he had a career year, appearing in the NHL All-Star game for the 5th time, leading the league in scoring and winning the Lester B. Pearson award as the players' choice as outstanding NHL performer. Alan Eagleson gave this trophy to Dionne after Marcel was awarded the scoring championship. Dionne and Wayne Gretzky both finished the year with 137 points but Marcel outscored Wayne 53 to 51. This explains the engraved metal plate that is different than on trophies handed out in the 1970's. It reads "Art Ross Cup – Presented To: Marcel Dionne – By: Alan Eagleson – 1980". The miniature silver plated replica of the bowl that sits atop the Art Ross Trophy is in excellent condition with just slight tarnish/wear on the front lip of the 6" bowl. The 6" square wooden base is just over 5" high, giving the award a total height of 10 1/2". Obtained directly from Marcel Dionne, the fabulous trophy will be accompanied with his signed letter of authenticity.
