Playing one season with the Peterborough Petes of the OHA in 1966-67 before turning pro the following year with the Houston Apollos of the CHL, John Schella would play a total of 115 in the NHL with the newly minted Vancouver Canucks between 1970 and 1972 before returning to the "Lone Star State" as a member of the WHA's Houston Aeros, where he would remain for the team's entire existence of six (6) seasons. A two-time AVCO Cup champion, offered here is this jersey worn by Schella during the Aeros' inaugural season of 1972-73. A heavy dureen knit garment made by General Athletic with their "The General" label still affixed inside the reverse hem, the jersey is void of a size tag in the collar but measures out to roughly a size "50" after inspection. Decorated over the front with "Aeros" going diagonally down the chest from right-to-left in pieced together dual layer tackle twill letters, matching single layer blue tackle twill stars have been added to each shoulder. Having been accented over the sleeves with Schella's number "2" in single layer blue tackle twill numerals, his number "2" is also found on the reverse as well, applied in a dual layer white-over-light blue tackle twill style. Having had "Schella" spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the top of the back that have been affixed directly to the jersey itself, the jersey exhibits good game-wear via board burns over both sleeves, paint transfers over the right sleeve, stick marks over the right sleeve and lower front, more paint transfers over the lower reverse, team repairs over both the lower front and reverse, spot staining throughout and pilling on the interior where a customized garter style fight strap has been utilized. Additionally, fabric runs are present to the front and right cuff while a hole is found over the reverse hem line.
