Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023

A product of the Sorel Éperviers in the QMJHL, Lucien DeBlois would be drafted by both the New York Rangers of the NHL (8th overall) and Quebec Nordiques of the WHA (9th overall) in 1977 and would elect to go the route of the National Hockey League and towards a career that totaled out to 993 NHL games played. A Stanley Cup champion in 1986 with the Montreal Canadiens, offered here, we present this Colorado Rockies jersey worn by DeBlois during the 1979-80 season. An all-mesh construction garment made by Rawlings, a brand tag displaying a size "46" designation is affixed to the inner collar. Decorated over the front with a rubberized Rockies team crest, matching rubberized alternate logo crests are present over both shoulders as well. Accented over the sleeves and verso with DeBlois' number "10" in heavy rubberized blue-over-red numerals.
A nameplate with "DeBlois" spelt out across it in heat-pressed blue vinyl letters is affixed across the top of the back with a pair of small loose threads visible under it so the nameplate was possibly changed at some point. Of note, DeBlois wore both 10 and 23 during the season after he was acquired by the Rockies, wearing the numeral seen here up to February 14th, 1980 before switching on February 16th, 1980. Additionally, the number 10 was also worn by Peter Sturgeon (October 13th and 14th - both road games in the blue jersey) and Mario Giallonardo (8GP - March 22nd to April 6th, 1980) but no evidence of any other nameplates is seen on the jersey being offered. Exhibiting excellent game-wear throughout, stick marks and coloured board paint transfers are seen over the front, reverse and both sleeves with the latter of the three (3) areas also displaying unrepaired holes/fabric runs along with board burns as well. Utilizing a garter style fight strap on the interior that has been cut out, heavy pilling is seen throughout as well while a single crack is seen at the bottom portion of each number on the reverse. Additionally, an included numeral image of a Rockies team-issued photo card picturing DeBlois from the 1979-80 season appears to show similarities between stick marks in the top yellow stripe of the left sleeve number the number "1" as well as to a stick mark directly underneath the sleeve stripes of the left sleeve as well but is not clear enough to call a photo-match.
