Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
One of the six franchises that joined the National Hockey League for the 1967-68 season, the Minnesota North Stars enjoyed 26 seasons of play in "Land of 10,000 Lakes", making the playoffs in 17 of those seasons, including trips to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1981 and 1991. Offered here from the 1974-75 season in which Minnesota finished with a record of 23-50-7, we present this North Stars jersey attributed to both Richard Nantais and Doug Rombough. Made by Rawlings, the brand's tag displaying a size "48" identifier is affixed to the inner collar along with an additional label from team customizer, Steichens. A dureen construction garment in Minnesota's familiar green, yellow and white colours, the front of the jersey is decorated with a North Stars team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have had the number "12", donned by both Nantais and Rombough during the season, sewn to them in dual layer white-over-yellow tackle twill numerals. Of note, Nantais wore the number during the first portion of the season in eighteen (18) games, the last of which was on December 18th, 1974, then Rombough wore it from January 6th, 1975 onwards after being acquired from the Islanders. Appearing to have never been worn during an NBC Game of the Week based on the lack of evidence of letters ever having been affixed to the upper back above the numbers, the jersey exhibits overall light use with the right sleeve showing a team repair, an unrepaired hole, a board burn and a scrape on the sleeve numbers while the left sleeve shows a pair of noticeable board burns. With pilling found on the interior, which also sports a loop and leather suspender style fight strap, some light spot stains are seen in the white portions of the sleeves, body, shoulders and front crest and is accompanied by a MeiGray LOA and COR.
