Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
The second set of hockey coins released by the Shirriff Family Foods Product Company, the 1961-62 contingent featured a checklist of 120 disks featuring players from all six of the National Hockey League’s franchises. Offered here in complete form, the plastic shields that collectors could send away for to display their coins are also included. Found to be in a fairly uniform condition range, almost all show even moderate toning throughout each face with some also sporting surface wear/residue and scratching to the paper images. All affixed in numerical order inside the plastic team shields with either glue or tape (Montreal – tape, New York – glue, Boston – glue, Chicago – glue, Toronto – tape and Detroit – glue), most of which has dried up enabling the coins able to be removed but with some dried residue on the reverses. All displaying “Salada Foods” and the team name plus “1961-62” across the top, all six of the thin plastic construction pieces show cracking in varying degrees with parts of some having completely broken off along the edges or bottom tip. A fabulous trip down memory lane, we’re sure our lucky winning bidder will be pleased by adding these to their all-important collection.
