Spending the first eleven seasons as well as the last hurrah of his Hall of Fame career wearing the uniform of the Montreal Expos, Gary Carter and his fabulous smile will always be synonymous with the ill-fated franchise. Clubbing 220 of his 324 home runs with Montreal to the tune of a .269 batting average, up on the block here is the white Montreal Expos home jersey donned by "The Kid" during the 1978 season. Made by Rawlings, the brand’s size “42” label is affixed inside the inner collar along with size fly tags displaying “Set 1 1978” and “1 Inch Extra Length”. Decorated over the front left side with the familiar Expos team crest in tackle twill with “Expos” spelt out below, Carter’s iconic number “8” is found over the right side and verso in both single layer red and blue tackle twill numerals with “Carter” arched out across the top of the back in blue letters of matching material. Exhibiting game-use that we would describe as moderate with the jersey having taken on a yellowed tone over the years since it was worn, use is seen via staining on the front from pine tar/infield dirt, a distinctive line over the lower front and reverse where the jersey would have been tucked into Carter’s pants, light pilling on the interior, marks/scratches to the red part of the Expos logo from Gary’s chest protector with a couple small pills just a above the blue part as well and a red coloured mark from the straps/buckles of Carter's chest protector on the left side of the back. Additionally, brown and reddish coloured spots/foxing is seen over the left sleeve as well. A jaw dropping piece from the first player to sport the cap of “Nos Amours” on their Baseball Hall of Fame plaque, memories of Montreal’s time in the big-leagues are sure to be recalled because of it.
