A beautiful grouping of cards hailing from the 19th century, up for grabs here is a collection of seventeen (17) cards from the 1887 N184 W.S. Kimball Champions of Games and Sports Cards set. Issued in packs of cigarettes made by W.S. Kimball and Co and featuring lithographic images of various sporting stars over the front with a “checklist” on the reverse with the set totalling fifty (50). A mix of both type 1 and type 2 specimens, the group is headlined by the examples of John L. Sullivan (boxing) and Jack Dempsey (boxing). Showing paper loss on the back of both cards that technically puts them in the POOR/AUTHENTIC grade range, the fronts of both cards still display well with nice colours over each worth noting. Four (4) cards, the examples of W.G. George (Pedestrian), John Murphy (Driver of Trotting Horses), Phillip Casey (Handball) and WM. Beach (Oarsman of the World) all show evidence of having been in a photo album at one time based on the lines present on the backs of each card. The remaining eleven cards included feature the names of Johnny Kane (Bronco Rider), W.A. Rowe (Bicycle Rider), John McPherson (Shot-Putter), Blondin (Tight Rope Walker), Clarence Whistler (Light Weight Wrestler), William Muldoon (Greco Roman Wrestling), H.M. Schloss – x2 (Sprinting), J.H. Jordan (Live Pigeon Shot), George W. Hamilton (Jumper of the World) and Duncan Cross (Champion Athlete of the World). Again, all of the cards fall into a lower grade category no higher than G (GOOD) on a couple of the examples with all showing toning and/or staining on their backs but again with the fronts displaying well and sporting nice colours. Additionally, two other cards are included, examples of "The Jockey" from the 1914 Riders of the World set by John Players and Sons and of H. Packham from the 1930 Odgen's Ltd. Jockeys set with both also in similar low-grade condition.
