Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Picturing the boys of summer, this massive baseball card collection dating from the 1970s to the 1990s is sure to pique the interest of many including those looking to build a collection or a dealer looking for a large quantity of inventory. Including both full and partial sets with most of the cards dating from the junk wax era and 1990s, those assumed to be complete include a 1991 Topps Archives 1953 Reprint set, 1988 and 1991 Score sets, with the 1991 offering including both the superstar and rising star subsets, and a 1994 Fleer Ultra set. For the partial sets, the oldest group included is a low-grade selection of 1977 O-Pee-Chee cards which is followed by similar bundles of O-Pee-Chee cardboard from 1984, 1985 and 1987 that while all in much better conditions overall, still fall short of a high-grade designation in our opinion. Also included for partial sets are groups for 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 Topps, 1993 and 1994 Topps Gold, 1991 O-Pee-Chee Premier, 1987 and 1992 Leaf, and 1994 Donruss Triple Play. Factory sets included with the collection are those from 1989 and 1990 Upper Deck, with the 1989 set missing cards including the Griffey RC and the 1990 set still sealed as well as 1990 and 1991 score with the 1990 offering appearing to have been picked through and missing cards while the 1991 set appears to be complete despite no longer being factory sealed. To complete the ungodly amount of 1980s and 1990s cardboard, thirteen (13) additional boxes filled with cards of the era are present and remain unsearched. Sporting sets released by Upper Deck, Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Score and other companies, many of the cards are housed in nine pocket pages and appear to be mostly in good condition at quick glance and include the stars of the era such as Clemens, Puckett, Gwynn, Alomar, Mattingly, Boggs and many more. Finally, to close out the baseball cards that are present, is a box of low-grade older cards that date from the 1960s and 1970s with a small number of 1950s pieces mixed in as well. As mentioned, the group is in low-grade condtion with many showing stains, water damage, corner/edge wear and creases. Stepping away from the diamond to close out the lot, a 1993-94 Fleer Series 2 basketball set is included that remains in good condition with some staining on the edges and is accompanied by a 500-count box of various early-1990s football cards, mostly from Score’s 1991 release, that includes names like Aikman, Marino, Jackson and Sanders. It should be noted that one of the unsearched boxes previously mentioned contains a mix of cards including basketball, football and non-sports releases
Most of the cards remain in a high-grade condition that is to be expected with cards from this era but condition exceptions are found throughout, mostly on the older cards as is noted above. Overall, a fun hunt awaits our lucky winning bidder.
Please be aware that special shipping arrangements will be needed to due the size and weight of the group and that in person pickup is encouraged as shipping will be expensive.
