Able to lay claim to being drafted by teams in both the NHL and WHA, Swedish born centerman Thomas Gradin would go on to play 677 games in the National Hockey League, all but 64 of them played with the Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver’s leading scorer in 1980-81 and 1981-82 and an NHL All-Star in 1985, up for grabs here is this Canucks jersey worn by Gradin during the early-1980s. Hailing from either the 1982-83 or 1983-84 season based on the style, the Maska made jersey still sports both the heavily washed out Maska (though partially detached) and size tags affixed to the inner collar while the Maska logo has been embroidered into the reverse hem. Measuring out to approx. a size “46”, the infamous “V-Style” garment has been decorated with matching Canucks “flying skate” patches over each bicep with Gradin’s number “23” found over both the sleeves and verso in dual-layer yellow-over-orange tackle twill numerals. Showing evidence of a removed long nameplate across the top of the upper back (most of the Canucks Maska early-1980s jersey were recycled down to Vancouver’s alumni team), the numbers remain original and unchanged while no evidence of the alumni patch is present over the right sleeve after inspection. Riddled with game-wear, stick marks, board burns, multiple team repairs and also unrepaired holes are seen over both sleeves while board burns and light stick marks are seen throughout the body along with a number of team repairs on the left side and the numbers on the reverse as well. A heavily salted snap style fight strap has been sewn in place on the interior and good pilling is seen on the inside at the elbows, arms and lower reverse.
Additionally, Getty Image #1217065212 (December 3rd, 1983 vs Toronto) appears to show a match to the unrepaired cut at the left side of the right sleeve's yellow stripe but is not high resolution enough for us to call it a definitive photo-match
