Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/3/2023
The Wanderers Amateur Athletic Club was formed in 1882 in Halifax and first featured in cricket, track and field and rugby football. The Wanderers sponsored a hockey team, which won the Starr Halifax Championships twice in the 1890s, and the Maritime amateur championship in 1898. We have an original framed cabinet photo of the 1898-99 Wanderers. With an image area of just over 10" x 13", the full squad is pictured in a posed studio setting, with team members shown wearing the patch of the WAAC and holding gorgeous one-piece period sticks. The players are listed beneath, with the photographer Gauvin & Gentzel's logo over the bottom left. Exhibiting toning in areas of the mount, the photo is set in a vintage frame to full dimensions of approx 18 1/2" x 22 1/2". 19th Century hockey photos are scarce, especially examples featuring identifiable and noteworthy clubs.
While all of our frames are thoroughly and safely packaged for shipping, due to the size and/or weight, and dependent upon the shipping company, we should mention that damage may occur in transit. Please note that as such, we are not responsible for damage to frames that occurs during shipping.
