Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

Still in his rookie National Hockey League season with the Detroit Red Wings, Pavel Datsyuk would suit up for his home nation of Russia for the second time in his career at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, helping the Russians to a bronze medal victory over Belarus. Registering 3 points in 6 games, we offer this stick used by the budding superstar during those Olympics that has been signed by him over the blade with a silver signature that displays without issue. A Nike Quest model with “Datsyuk” stamped to the upper shaft, the stick retains its original white tape job over the knob/handle, with the wrapping covering most of the name stamp and showing “26” handwritten in black ink at the bottom, the number Datsyuk wore during the Games. The blade also retains its original blade tape job. The shaft has been spray painted black, a practice seen on other Datsyuk sticks, with most of the paint having worn off the top end of the stick. Exhibiting light-to-moderate game-use, marks are seen throughout the length of the shaft with some nicks and abrasions found at the bottom end near the heel. The blade tape shows some marks with tears seen at the toe and bottom edge as well. Additionally, a label reading “6. Datsyuk – 2002 Olympics Stick” has been affixed to the underside of the shaft.
