Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022

A rematch of the past season, with the regular-season champion Detroit Red Wings again meeting the third-place Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup finals, the 1948-49 season would be just the second title appearance for the legendary Gordie Howe, and despite the legend scoring 11 points in 11 games, the Leafs would sweep the series, giving Toronto its third straight Stanley Cup and the NHL its first recognized dynasty. Hailing from the Cup clinching game four, won the Leafs 3-1, we offer this Maple Leaf Gardens program from the 1949 Stanley Cup Finals. Measuring nearly 7” x 10”, the cover shows an image of Vic Lynn and the original .25 cent purchase price along with the signatures of Ted Kennedy, Turk Broda, Jim Thomson, Vic Lynn, Bill Juzda and Joe Klukay. All the signers have scrawled their autographs in pencil, with all displaying well. Remaining complete at 80 pages, the centre line-up is intact, displaying the date of April 16th, 1949 and “Stanley Cup Finals (4th Game)” with no fewer than 14 future HOFers between the two clubs. Showing a small tear to the edge on the front cover, toning to the inside pages and wear/light creasing to the corners is observed along with light surface wear and a crease seen on the back cover that also has details of the game’s goals handwritten in pen. Moderate wear is exhibited along the spine through tears and paper loss while the staples show virtually no rusting.
