Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Thoughts of GEM MINT rookie cards of the Hall of Famers in our title are provoked by the sight of this tempting offering that contains four dozen (48) 1984-85 O-Pee-Chee hockey card packs. The late, great Clark Gillies, a four-time Stanley Cup champion, is featured on the riveting double brick-size box and helps to show the design that has made ’84-85 OPCs hobby favorites over the years. Also helping is the fine rookie card lineup, led by Steve Yzerman. In this day and age of many collectors’/investors’ quest for high grade rookies, “GEM MT 10” indeed comes to mind. Perfect examples of the HOFer RCs would be exciting to uncover if busting some or all of the 48 packs is in your future. The packs cost 35 cents each back in the day and that was an increase from the previous 25 cents but packs included more cards (15) than their predecessors (10). The box exhibits only light wear, notably at the bottom corners, and displays marvelously, with a couple of light scuffs in the blue of the box top and a pair of small tears along with creasing near the front edge. scotch tape stains on the bottom, from once having been stored on top of others boxes, is also to note, as is a wrinkle/tear to the back front edge where the top fold over and a scuff at the NHLPA logo on the backside. The packs were inspected and confirmed as having not been opened by unopened specialist Baseball Card Exchange, with a BBCE label and certification number affixed to the shrink wrap that now seals the booty – a special acquisition offering numerous options it will be.
