Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
The longest reigning British Monarch and Consort in the history of the British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip were married a total of 73 years, until the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing in 2021. Offered here is this photo of the two during their 1973 Royal Visit to Canada that has been signed by both the Queen and Prince and dated underneath. Coming with great provenance, our consignor’s father was an RCMP officer and part of the escort team for the 1964 Royal Tour, assuming similar duties in 1973. A number of newspaper pictures and photos show him in function near the Queen and digital images of these will be forwarded to the winner of the lot. Measuring approx. 6 ¾” x 8 1/8”, the portrait image of the pair is mounted on a cardstock backing measuring approx. 6 ¾” x 10”. The image is of nice quality and remains in good condition, showing corner and edge wear that includes small bits of paper loss. The backing shows light toning along with paper loss near Philip’s signature as well as liquid staining and edge wear to the front and reverse. A stamp reading “Anthony Buckley Photography” is found on the backside of the piece, with “5170-6” handwritten in pencil. Both the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have signed underneath the image in bold blue fountain pen. The Queen’s signature appears flawless with Philip’s having a small bleed from liquid that dripped onto it. Also included with the lot is an invitation to a luncheon sent to the RCMP officer as well as a snapshot photo of the Queen during the tour and a number of Royal Train 1973 envelopes.
