Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022

Known later for his jovial/smiling nature, veteran minor league goalie Johnny Bower had Rangers fans smiling at times during his first NHL season when, like the back of his 1954-55 rookie card informs, he posted the lowest GAA by a Ranger goalie in some 15 years, his performances making him a contender for not only the Calder but also the Hart Trophy as league MVP. Card number 65 in the 100 card 1954-55 set, this copy of the netminder’s rookie card has received an EX 5 grade after examination by PSA, with toning to the upper half and light wear to all four corners visible. Bower, erroneously identified as "Bowers" on the back of his '54-55 Parkie, would go on to help the Maple Leafs to four Stanley Cup titles and play into his mid-Forties, later bringing smiles for decades to autograph seekers – what a great guy! Remaining in excellent condition, only a couple of light scratches/scuffs to each side of the PSA holder are worth noting.
