Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Among the Parkhurst company's early cards, this depiction of the legendary Maurice Richard has long been considered one of the nicest to look at by many hobbyists, with the write-up on the reverse revealing that the Canadiens' star had shattered Nels Stewart's career mark of 324 goals the previous season. A wonderful rendition of Rocket Richard “on the doorstep” and attempting to add to his goal-scoring record is what hockey lovers discovered back in 1953-54 if they were lucky enough to pull an example of card #24 when opening a Parkhurst pack. Slabbed by PSA, the card has been deemed worthy of an EX-MT 6 designation. Sporting good colours and respectable centering on the front, the corners remain sharp all the way around with the top right and two bottom ones showing light touches of wear. Toning is seen to the right side of the card that is seen as well on the left side on the reverse. The PSA holder shows only small light scratches over both sides. At 69 years old, this example of card #24 is one to be desired for any advanced hockey collection.
