Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
The four most important/valuable cards in Parkhurst’s 1954-55 issue indeed headline this appealing gathering and recently returned from PSA land, with cards of Gordie Howe and Rocket Richard earning EX-MT 6 assessments, while Johnny Bower’s rookie card and Jean Beliveau’s second-year Parkie are slabbed “EX 5”. Although not without some condition issues, the raw lineup features a strong majority of examples that either mirror the graded foursome or edge them. We see 33-Sawchuk and 36-Delvecchio as EX-MT contributors, with 31-Horton and 100-Sawchuk Stops Boom Boom at EX, while in between at EX+ are 8-Geoffrion, 46-Lindsay and 82-Sasakamoose RC. Other submission candidates are among the action cards at the end, with sub-EX notables being 1-McNeil (VG with a bottom edge notch), 2-Moore (VG+) and 57-Mohns RC (VG). Varying degrees of toning are observed throughout, with minor back damage affecting 16 cards but most of them being commons; nine, (including 24-Armstrong), have a small two-digit number penciled to the upper back, three (95-Harvey Action) have stains at the back corners, another three have evidence of once being glued (all text is legible) and one has a smidgeon of paper loss, while a half-dozen, (14-Harvey), measure markedly short or narrow, suggesting trimming. With all that said, dozens of attractive EX to EX-MT cards will be pleasant for the high bidder to come upon, with some EX-MT+ and NM entries also to discover. Finally, it should be noted that all cards are regular issues, with no Lucky Premium backs present.
