Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

“Creases” is the word that quickly gives you an idea of what to expect with this still-acceptable assembly of low grade 1952-53 Parkies, with many of the creases appearing to have been the result of a youngster back in the day bending the cards upon inserting them into no-longer-present cardboard “sheets” of a Parkie album. Many cards thus have one or two diagonal creases in the bottom corner regions but at least the cards were bent from the front, meaning creasing is more obvious/severe when viewing the back, where write-ups are legible. Creases elsewhere are also observed, while the set’s key rookie card, that of Tim Horton, recently received a VG 3 assessment at PSA, a tad generous in our opinion given the multiple creases, although most are subtle and light. The vast majority of the raw cards are sub-VG and fall into the P-F-G range. Several of the star cards mirror the Horton RC though and are not hard to look at, while 18 are admittedly hammered and P, including notables 13-Bouchard, 44-Kennedy, 71-Dumart and 95-Max Bentley, the latter a fan’s favorite player and displaying back damage after being removed from the accompanying “Photo Folio.” Terry Sawchuk’s card is noteworthy and displays rather well with light creases but the text on the back is faded and difficult to read, with rookie cards of Dickie Moore and George Armstrong joined by numerous other fellow Hall of Famers. A respectable lower grade gathering will be a more affordable alternative to superior examples.
