The longest serving New York Islanders captain in franchise history, Denis Potvin was widely regarded as one of the best blueliners in the NHL during his tenure, with three James Norris trophies won along with being the first defenseman to score 1,000 career points. A member of the Islanders Stanley Cup dynasty, we offer this video-matched Islanders jersey worn by Potvin during his final year as captain, in 1986-87. Made by CCM, a Maska Ultrafil label is affixed to the inner collar, displaying a handwritten “5 C”, with the CCM and Syosset Sports logos embroidered into the rear hem, with the jersey measuring out to a size 52. Featuring a classic Islanders crest over the front in layered tackle twill along with the distinguished captain’s “C” over the left breast. The sleeves and verso have been decorated with Potvin’s number “5” in white-over-orange tackle twill, with “Potvin” spelt out across the top of the back in single layer white twill letters on the affixed matching nameplate. The fight strap on the interior of the jersey shows pilling at the edges as well as salting at the buttons. Sporting good game-wear, stick marks are seen over the lower front and both sleeves while a total of six team repairs are found throughout. Two small stains are also found on the front of the jersey. Regarding the aforementioned video-matching, the jersey is matched to the Islanders game played April 5th, 1987 vs the Philadelphia Flyers to the particular placement of the captain's "C", the placement of the Syosset Sports logo on the back hem and to the variation of size of the letters on the nameplate, particularly the "I". An LOA will accompany the jersey.
