Tending the Maple Leafs crease at Maple Leaf Gardens over fourteen seasons, Johnny “The China Wall” Bower would lead the blue and white to four Stanley Cups over that time, earning personal accolades including two Vezina Trophy’s along the way as well. Originally raised to the rafters during the 1994-95 season, offered here is this jersey retirement banner for the 1976 HHOF inductee that hung from the rafters at Maple Leaf Gardens. Measuring approx. 168” x 83 ½”, the banner is made of a blue and white satin finish nylon material with the intricately sewn double-sided design incorporating a large Toronto Maple Leafs logo at the top, Bower’s number “1” is seen below across uniform striping with “Bower” underneath that. In excellent condition, dirt and dust are seen and felt throughout the piece from age and display while some minor stains are observed over both sides as well though not affecting the eye appeal, . Retaining the metal rod through the top, the banner was originally sold as part of the Maple Leaf Gardens “Memories and Dreams” auction on November 19th, 2000. An exceptional piece from one of the greatest to ever wear the Maple Leaf over his chest. Please note that due to the large size, special shipping arrangements are required, with local pick-up preferred.
